I truly love my job and put work in before lessons to prepare a suitable plan and prepare any necessary handouts (music/theory etc) for a good lesson to suit each student at the level or interest they are currently situated.
In return I expect my students to, over time, establish a good solid practice routine at home (and I understand habits take time to make). I can help, if needed, with tips on establishing and maintaining a good practice habit. But all things like these DO happen if they are a MUST in the weekly schedule. Without a solid practice habit over time and a suitable instrument to practice on at home, lessons are ultimately doomed to failure. The 30 minute window the weekly lesson provides is not enough to ensure new material is learned and memorised without solid practice. Learning an instrument takes repetitive practice at home on a regular, consistent basis.
Please note - I do NOT enrol students in extra curricular activities such as exams unless they have established a solid practice regime including an average of 2.5 to 3.5 hours of practice per week spread out over at least 5 days of the week, and more specifically, students who cover the work I ASK THEM to complete. Extra activities require commitment and good practice habits that have already been established.
